Makeup Must Haves

My 3 month old daughter, Harper, is thankfully an amazing sleeper at night. She also used to be a great napper. But my luck has run out (early 4 month sleep regression, maybe?) and now I’m lucky if she naps longer than 30 minutes. That means I rarely have more than 20 minutes to get myself ready, and I definitely don’t have time for makeup touch-ups throughout the day. These are my go-to makeup products that help me get out the door quickly, but also keep me looking put together all day long.

I used to be a tinted moisturizer kinda gal, but unfortunately tinted moisturizer is no match for the eye bags these days. Lately I’ve really been loving Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. It stays in place all day, doesn’t transfer or rub off on my baby’s clothing, and is full coverage enough to skip concealer when I’m in a hurry. I mean, really, does it get any better than that?

On a budget? Check out this super affordable option from Cover Girl.

I can’t believe it took me so long to figure out eyeshadow primer was a thing, but now that I know I’ll never look back! I use MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base and my eyeshadow stays put all day. No creasing, no smudging, no weird transfer of eyeshadow when you blink. It’s magic, really, and it just takes a few seconds to apply. I’ve been using the same tube for close to a year, so I can totally justify the price. But if MAC isn’t in your budget, NYX also has a great eyeshadow primer.

Wait, this post is for busy moms and you’re telling me you have time to contour? No no, my friend…stay with me here! Contour palettes are the best multitasking makeup products on the market! I use my You Sculpted palette by It Cosmetics* for under eye setting powder, bronzer, and eyeshadow. And on the rare occasion that I’m feeling fancy, yes, I’ll actually use it to contour. Why waste time grabbing for 4 different makeup products when you only need to grab one? If you’re looking to save some money, I also have the e.l.f. cosmetics contour palette and it gets the job done.

*I have the old version of the It Cosmetics contour palette (“My Sculpted Face”), but I hear the new You Sculpted palette is even better!

I’ve been blessed with very long eyelashes. The problem? They are stick straight! When I’m in a rush and don’t have time to curl them, I always use L’Oreal Voluminous mascara. Curled or not curled, this mascara always makes my lashes look amazing.

Like I said before, I don’t have time for makeup touch-ups. I want to do my makeup once then have it stay put all day. I love the All Nighter Setting Spray by Urban Decay. It really keeps my makeup looking fresh all day (no melting in this Florida heat!) and is perfect for long workdays or a night out. NYX also has a setting spray that claims to do the same thing at a fraction of the cost. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m definitely going to pick some up once my All Nighter runs out!

Lipstick can really make you look polished on days when you don’t have a lot of time for makeup, but I never wore it because I hated having to reapply. When I first heard of the Lipsense craze a few years ago, I was a total skeptic. But now that I’ve tried it, I have to say it definitely lives up to the hype! You can do practically anything in this lipstick and it lasts all day. Seriously, it didn’t even budge after dinner at a Japanese steakhouse. The only reapplying you need to do is an occasional gloss touch-up, which this chapstick junkie can totally handle. If you’re interested in checking it out for yourself, my sweet friend Caley is a distributor. Head on over to her Facebook group Kissable by Caley.

DRY SHAMPOO – I’m sure most of you mamas can relate, but my shower time is very limited these days. When I don’t have time to wash my hair, dry shampoo comes to the rescue! If by chance you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t tried it, Batiste dry shampoo is super affordable and you need it. Now.

BABY WIPES – Did you know you can use baby wipes to remove makeup?! We all know how bad it is for your skin to sleep in makeup. For those of you with littles still in diapers, just use a baby wipe. If you’re like me, you’ve probably got them everywhere so it’s super convenient. Did you also know that baby wipes are so much cheaper than makeup remover wipes? These Pampers Aqua Pure baby wipes (99% water, so they are gentle on skin) are $0.04 per wipe as of the day I’m writing this, but these Neutragena makeup remover wipes are $0.21 per wipe…over 5 times more! I love a good deal, so I’ll continue to use baby wipes even after my little one is out of diapers.
